Frustration of the Day

I went into W*l*art tonight getting some fingernail polish remover(in and out quick trip) and got into the express check out lane.

A young woman who had her toddler with her was in front of me was trying to buy milk, bread and cheese with her food stamp card and for some reason it would not work. Different managers were coming over to help and she was getting frustrated because the card would not work. I could have gone to another lane but I wanted to see how this woman handled the situation.

After ten minutes she ended up putting the milk, bread and cheese BACK. I thought she was going to walk away but she was holding something in her hand. Imagine my shock that what she did end up buying was a 45 dollar bottle of perfume. To pay for it she pulled out a huge WAD of cash (like several 20's and 10's and 50's)

She had a designer purse, her nails were freshly manicured, had alot of cash and yet she put back the food for her child, and used her cash to buy perfume.

It blew my mind. I did not say anything (if she was on my caseload, she would have heard an earful) but I really wanted to express my thoughts.

so once again I ask the question that crosses my mind several times a week thanks to my job:

what is wrong with people?
